ESTABLISHMENT HISTORY

It began in September 2003, a group of 7 taxi drivers who operated at Putrajaya Sentral had decided to set up a "Society" that shall be responsible for the welfare, rights and to assist in increasing the earnings of its members. A sponshorship meeting was organized at Block 4A, Presint 9, Putrajaya (home of  the Sponsor's Chairman, Mr. Abd. Wahab)  under the name of "Persatuan Pemandu Teksi dan Kereta Sewa Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya." During the meeting a total of 14 people were appointed as the "Association Sponsor Committee Member."

The registration of the association was approved by the Registrar of Society on 27th February 2004.

During the meeting and discussion with Tuan Hj Musa bin Muhammad, LPKP Secretary (at that time) on the application of taxi permits and the approval to operate taxi services using coupon system, the Society was informed that LPKP did not have any policy to issue permit to any Society. Taxi permits and the authorization to operate taxi services using coupon system were only issued to Companies, individuals and Cooperatives.

Thus, on 16th June 2004, in the first Annual General Meeting of the Association, a resolution was passed to set up a cooperative called the "Koperasi Pengangkutan Awam Putrajaya Berhad" for the economic benefits of its members.
